The common cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag
The reason you will see no doubt
Its to keep the lightning out
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.
(Christopher Isherwood from Poems Past and Present 1959)

Silly nonsense on a blog eh? You'd never find me indulging in that. I'm not actually familiar with the "common shag", having preference for a more exotic and refined kind of bird. What exactly is it? Sounds a bit West Coast to me.
I can imagine you are not familiar with the "common shag", Andrew. A shag is quite common in some places though :-o
